The photo exhibition “Marvila: Portraits of Everyday Life” (or “Marvila: Retratos da Vida” in the original Portuguese version) will be touring the Marvila district in Lisbon in the coming weeks to showcase photos from Marvila and three other European cities.

The exhibition opened on February 28th at the Sociedade Musical 3 d’Agosto at the occasion of the award ceremony. The winner, Duarte Cardoso, received a state of the art tablet allowing him to continue working on his photos and be involved in the MyNeighbourhood project. He explained that he was happy to participate in an event aiming at promoting and enhancing his neighbourhood. The ceremony ended with a reception during which citizens from Marvila could meet and share their impressions of the photos.

Three other European cities (Aalborg, Birmingham and Milan) created a similar competition as part of MyNeighbourhood project. All four cities competed to find the best local photography, taken by one of their citizens, portraying the everyday life of the cities and their people. The winners were selected in each city through a vote of local residents.  All photos are included in the exhibition and the photographers were invited to the ceremony.
